What does being “healthy” truly mean? Does it mean you eat healthy foods? That you exercise frequently? That you take your vitamins every day? Of course these are all aspects of living a healthy lifestyle, but there is so much more to health than your diet and exercise regimen. In order to be healthy from the inside out, we need to examine our lives in every way and take our mental health into account too! Our feelings are an important part of our health and feeling miserable every day is no way to live a healthy life. Read below for a few tips on how you can improve your health both physically and mentally.
1) Be Curious. An important aspect of maintaining good mental health is to always be curious and continue learning. One way that I do this is by reading books with a positive outlook. These books help me keep my mental attitude strong. They help me not only in my career, but in my personal life. A fabulous way to begin the routine of reading is by joining The Women’s Book Club. Amazing books to help you in your professional and personal lives are suggested for you each month. In addition to reading, I encourage you to be curious about your surroundings and how you can connect with them in a positive way. Find a frame of mind in which you can connect to nature. Once you are able to connect to your surroundings, your mental state will undoubtedly improve.
2) Be Grateful. It’s important to not focus on the things we don’t have, but rather on the things we DO have. One way to help you focus on the positive is with a gratitude jar. Every day, write down something that happened that you were grateful for and place it in your jar. Later, if you’re having a negative moment you can reach in your jar and pull out one of those moments of gratitude. This will help you realize how lucky you truly are and shift your mood to a more positive state. You can focus on what you have and build around that rather than dwelling on negativity.
3) Relax and treat yourself. So many people become burnt out because they spread themselves too thin. Taking a few moments of “me” time is incredibly important in your overall well-being. Do not feel guilty about taking this time for yourself – it is so critical to being healthy from the inside out. I would be remise without saying that a fantastic way to relax and treat yourself at the same time is with a massage. Massage is proven to relax tension and decrease stress levels. I would recommend the Organic Candle Massage at The Charles Penzone Grand Salons. A massage candle fills the room with its luxurious aroma and warmth. The wax melts at a soothing temperature, creating a warm blend of essential oils. Perhaps the best part of this service is that you get to take the massage candle with you to create a spa of your own at home. You can light the candle and enjoy its aroma while taking a bubble bath. You can even pour the wax into your hand to massage your muscles! Doesn’t that sound relaxing?
4) Stop procrastinating. So many of us constantly put off doing things that are incredibly important to our health. When is the last time you had a check-up with your doctor? As women, we tend to take care of everyone else and put our own health on the backburner. It’s important that we focus on taking care of ourselves first so that we can be healthy and the best moms, wives and business leaders that we can be. It is your responsibility to take your health into your own hands. No one is going to force you to go to the doctors so it is important that you be proactive. Stop putting everyone else’s appointments on your calendar. Make that time for yourself. Stop procrastinating, pick up the phone and make that appointment!
Making sure your health is in good order – both mentally and physically – will help make sure you stay on the right path to achieving your goals and pursuing your dreams. I encourage you to live your passions, do the things that make you happy and occasionally take a moment or two just for you. I promise, you’ll begin feeling healthy, happy and ready to conquer the world.
